Dean Heller is in prime position to win his second term in 2008. In Congress, Heller has worked to provide relief for Nevadans struggling with record high prices at the gas pump by voting consistently to expand our domestic energy production in the middle of America's energy crisis.Ê Heller has proven to be a strong advocate for his constituents in Nevada by representing their interests in Washington. HellerÕs opponent is Jill Derby, who is a true liberal Democrat, served as Chairwoman of NevadaÕs Democrat Party and lost to Heller by five percent in a Democrat wave election cycle.Ê Prior to launching her first long-shot bid for Congress, she served on the Board of Regents and has supported raising tuition of students within the Nevada university system (Nevada System of Higher Education, Board of Regents Minutes, December 1-2, 2005).Ê If elected to Congress, Jill Derby would bring her reckless agenda to Washington as a loyal rubberstamp for Nancy Pelosi. History: President Bush carried NevadaÕs 2nd Congressional District in 2000 and 2004 with 57% of the vote in each year. Geography: The 2nd District encompasses the entirety of the state of Nevada outside of Clark County and includes some portions of Clark County. It includes the cities and towns of Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Elko and Pahrump. NV-03 (Jon Porter, R) Jon Porter will be facing State Senate Majority Leader Dina ÒTaxesÓ Titus in his bid for a fourth term. Porter has supported incentives to produce more renewable sources of energy to help ease gas prices. His representation on the powerful Ways & Means Committee has been vital for NevadaÕs 3rd Congressional District. Dina Titus is already familiar with losing campaigns, having lost her gubernatorial bid just two years ago once her out-of-touch record was revealed to Nevada voters. Titus has a long history of voting for countless tax increases, including sales taxes and fees for marriage licenses.Ê She has vowed to block drilling in ANWR despite the fact that Nevadans are paying an average of $3.90 per gallon (AAA Fuel Gauge Report). She would vote in lock-step with her liberal leaders in Washington and would be detrimental to the voters of Nevada. ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ History: President Bush captured NevadaÕs 3rd District in 2004 with 50% of the vote. Al Gore took the district in 2000 with 49% of the vote. Geography: The 3rd District covers a portion of Clark County that largely includes the suburbs of Henderson, North Las Vegas, Summerlin, Boulder City, and much of the countyÕs unincorporated territory.
